What to do if you don't hear anything?

It can be that all midi events are sent to External Midi-Interface, but no external midi device is attached. Then give in the menu under MIDI / < midi out ports > your sound-card as Midi Out Port (Device). Check whether your loudspeakers are connected and switched on. Connect an external Midi-Device, and check whether the Midi-Cable are put right. Furthermore, it can be that other programs already use the sound-cards midi out as well as the external appliance proves or still locks. Quit these programs or start Windows again.

What to do with timing problems?

If you use a multi-asking-operation-system, so it can come to tempo-timing fluctuations during the playback when several programs have access to midi ports simultaneous . Also programs, that run in the background, can make difficulties.

Reminder: Switch off screen-savers and other utilities. Also, driver-programs can cause problems in exceptions. So, the continuous invitation of a printer driver to refill paper, or to fortify a cable, leads to perceptible tempo-timing-fluctuations.

If you still have the playback problems on your computer, so it is necessary to look for a matching Driver for your sound-card.

Professional sound with Octava

Please take into account, Octava produces no Sounds. Octava only controls the available MIDI instruments connected to the computer over the MIDI interface.

The MIDI instruments of a sound card usually don't have the quality of sampled instruments as one knows it from playing a CD.

If you need studio quality level for your sounds, then it is advisable to supply your computer with corresponding sound libraries or external MIDI devices. E.g. there are good GM libraries of Garritan. There are  extra virtual MIDI devices, like the VST - Stack from Steinberg company which can be used with a multi-client MIDI Maple Driver to connect Octava with any VST host virtual device. MIDI Maple is one multi-client MIDI driver.
